THE BACCHAE by Euripides

The God Of Wine and Cheer, Dionysus - born of a mortal woman and the almighty Zeus - has returned to his ancestral home of Thebes. He has not come to joyfully frolic and make merry, but to exact his revenge against the family of his mother, who scorn her memory and do not pay homage to the great god. With his great powers, he calls the women of Thebes into the wilderness to take part in the savage Bacchic Rituals, which spells doom for King Pentheus, who wishes to keep order in the city.

This new production of The Bacchae is a classical interpretation using modern conventions and audience participation - an immersive ritual beginning the moment the audience enters the theater, and lasting long after they’ve returned to the mundane world. Presented by Komoi Collective and Tubiforce Media Productions, THE BACCHAE is part of the 2013 Oberon New Works Series.
